Young Competition Winners See Festive Designs Brought To Life

Three young Islanders have seen their bespoke Christmas designs brought to life as part of a festive competition.

People were invited to design their own illuminated Christmas decoration as part of the ‘Light Up a Lamppost’ competition, with three winning designs handmade by NDL Electrical and attached to lampposts in Newport as part of the Christmas festivities.

Liam Finch, 14, Zoe Foster, six, and five-year-old Angel-Hope Love all attended the Newport ‘Day of Christmas’ last month, where their bespoke designs were illuminated for the first time when they pushed the plunger together in front of an audience of hundreds.

This year Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council worked with contractor NDL Electrical to give young people a chance to be involved in designing the town’s Christmas lights.

Liam designed a happy elf motif, Zoe’s design featured robins and Angel-Hope’s design showed Father Christmas in his sleigh.

The winning designs can be seen on lampposts along Church Litten until the beginning of January.
