Latest As Flooding Hits Ventnor, Ryde And Brading

Roads are beginning to reopen after flooding caused closures across some parts of the Isle of Wight.

Ventnor, Ryde and Brading are some of the areas worst affected by overnight flooding.

Ventnor

In Ventnor, heavy rainfall caused water to burst through cracks in Shore Hill, otherwise known as Cascades.

The road has since been closed to vehicles, as Island Roads carry out 'assessments, investigation and repairs'.

It is not yet known when the road to the seafront will reopen. Videos show the town's paddling pool being turned brown.

Further down the shoreline, a landslip occurred at Wheeler’s Bay. Like the paddling pool, it turned the sea brown and also caused damage to vessels.

Ryde

In Ryde and surrounding areas, Beaper's Shute has reopened. It had to be closed earlier after torrential downpours saw vehicles unable to pass.

Meanwhile, Great Preston Road, Smallbrook Lane and Ashey Road are passable, with care.

Seaview also saw heavy downpours. Puckpool Hill has seen flooding, which has affected The Boathouse.

Elsewhere, Nettlestone Hill is expected to re-open shortly.

A flood warning remains in place in Ryde. Flooding is expected for Monktonmead Brook at St Johns Road, St John's Station and Park Road.

It is in force until 6pm, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported.

Water levels are high at the brook, next to Simeon Recreation Ground.

Brading and Sandown

Coach Lane in Brading has reopened following an earlier closure. Island Roads was carrying out repairs following earlier flooding.
