Large Group 'Escorted Off' Isle Of Wight After Police Issue Dispersal Order In Cowes

A large group of men had to be escorted off the Isle of Wight after 'causing a nuisance' in Cowes yesterday (Bank Holiday Monday).

Hampshire Constabulary says it issued a two-hour Section 35 dispersal order in the town, to prevent further anti-social behaviour.

Police were called to a group of men 'causing a nuisance' to other customers in The Duke of York pub. They were asked to leave by staff.

Earlier in the day a speaker was also stolen from Town Quay. Officers say it was later found and will be returned to its owner.

The incident prompted a large police response to Cowes. At least a dozen officers were alerted to the area at around 2.51pm.

A spokesperson for the force said:

"The group was later located close to the Red Funnel terminal and the men were escorted onto the ferry to return to the mainland.

"As a result of the initial call being received a 12-hour Section 35 dispersal order was introduced for the immediate area in Cowes to prevent further anti-social behaviour."
