Isle Of Wight Vaccine Volunteer Encourages Rapid Testing

An Isle of Wight volunteer at a coronavirus vaccine centre is encouraging Islanders to book in for rapid coronavirus testing.

Leif Marriner has been guiding Islanders and reassuring them as they get their COVID jab - whilst also delivering Beacon Magazines across the Isle of Wight.

He cannot work from home says he wants to inspire others to get tested.

As previously reported, plans were revealed to roll out rapid coronavirus testing at the start of the month (February).

The initial six-week Community Testing Programme (CTP) would see Islanders - who are continuing to leave their home to go into high-risk work settings during the pandemic - offered a COVID-19 test.

The initiative is aimed at those who are showing no coronavirus symptoms, which is known as asymptomatic.

Leif, also a Trading Assistant at Sainsbury’s said:

"I took a test today because I have to go out to work and can't work from home. I want to protect my family, work colleagues and most importantly the public. One in three people with the virus show no symptoms; identifying those people will help stop the spread.

“It was easy and painless, and done within minutes. I totally recommend the test for all workers, so together we can stamp out COVID-19."

Leif says the whole thing took 5 minutes and he got a text with a result within 20 minutes.
