Isle Of Wight School Demolition Uncovers Blackboard With Lesson From 1994

A blackboard with chalk diagrams from a 1994 school lesson has been discovered at a soon-to-be demolished primary on the Isle of Wight.

Workers at All Saints' Primary School, Freshwater made the find as they removed furniture and fittings from the building.

A classroom's whiteboard was being stripped from a wall when, amazingly, a blackboard - dating back 27 years - was unveiled underneath.

Diagrams of Monk's Bay and a watch were among the drawings chalked on the board.

Also written on it is the date: 'Tuesday July 19, 1994'.

Commenting on the find, West Wight Heritage Centre said:

"Now here's an interesting little story..... whilst touring All Saints' School recently, we came across this blackboard in one of the classrooms. So, why is the date so, out of date?! We learned later that a white board had been placed over the top of it.

"This had just been removed whilst the workman were stripping furniture and fittings, thus revealing what was behind.

"I wonder if anyone remembers that day and that lesson 27 years ago!"

Names of Kim P, Toni M, Veronica Reynolds or Steve Denham also feature on the board.

What the council called 'surplus pupil numbers' in the West Wight saw All Saints close last year.

Students have been temporarily moved to Yarmouth CE Primary School, while works for a new £4.5m school at the site are carried out.

Once work is complete, all students from Yarmouth will then be moved to the Freshwater site, at which time Yarmouth CE will shut.
