Isle Of Wight PCSO Honoured For His Lifesaving Efforts

An Island Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) - who tried in vain to save the life of a driver who had crashed - has been recognised with a special award.

In June 2018, PCSO Steve Hull was on patrol when he came across a single vehicle collision. An elderly driver had driven into a lamppost and there were no signs of life.

Due to the remote location, it was clear that any other assistance was going to be a long time. PCSO Hull made the decision to start resuscitation in an attempt to bring the man back to life. He continued for around 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived and paramedics took over lifesaving attempts.

Sadly, the man did not survive.

PCSO Hull’s efforts to save this man’s life whilst alone and waiting for other emergency services has led to him being awarded a Royal Humane Society Award, which he was presented with at a ceremony at the Riverside Centre in Newport.
