Isle Of Wight Musicians Come Together To Raise £5,000 For Ukraine

Music for Ukraine concluded on Sunday (April 3) with a second full day of music at the Quay Arts Centre.

A total of 31 bands and well over 100 musicians took part in the event, organised by Jim Thorn.

The event has raised over £5,000 for MAD-Aid, the local charity who have so far delivered 10 truckloads of donations and supplies to Ukraine, Moldova and surrounding countries.

Musical acts on Sunday ranged from folk and traditional jazz, to gypsy, modern and latin jazz, soul and blues and afrobeat.

Large crowds attended every musical spot upstairs and downstairs.

The collections were boosted by kind donations from a number of local businesses, artists and organisations, and a prize draw took place.

Jim Thorn said:

"MAD-aid and myself were thrilled with the amount donated, but perhaps more importantly, hundreds more local people now know about MAD-aid and the work they do.

"The attendances on both days were excellent, and the support we have had from local musicians and businesses has been incredible.

"The idea of Music for Ukraine came to me about four weeks ago and it was a great effort by everyone to pull something together so quickly".
