Isle Of Wight MP "Supportive" Of PM Boris Johnson After Partygate

The Isle of Wight MP has finally broken his silence over partygate, saying he is "supportive" of Prime Minister Boris Johnson — for now.

But Bob Seely says it "is right" that Parliament looks into Mr Johnson's actions, after the PM received a fine for breaking lockdown rules.

Had it gone to a formal vote, Mr Seely confirmed he would have voted in favour of yesterday's (Thursday's) Labour motion.

MPs voted to allow a parliamentary committee to look into the matter.

More than a week after asking Mr Seely for his views on the issue, he sent a statement today (Friday).

"I would have voted for the motion on Thursday had it moved to a formal vote.

“It is right that Parliament looks into this to establish the facts, and that we are all privy to the findings. I am glad that government offered a free vote, as it should have.

“We need to draw a line under this once and for all so that government can get on with tackling the issues that matter to our constituents.

“I will reserve any further comment until full and proper investigations have concluded.”

The government had tried to delay yesterday's vote, but changed its mind after facing opposition from its own MPs.

Mr Johnson said he had "absolutely nothing, frankly, to hide".
