Isle Of Wight Maritime Firm Stripped Of Accreditation Amid 'Insolvency' Claims

An Isle of Wight maritime firm at the centre of 'insolvency' claims has had one of its accreditations temporarily stripped.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, customers say Red Ensign Training has taken payments from them, only to then be told they are closed and to contact an 'insolvency firm' to get a refund.

The firm insists it is keeping customers' interests at the forefront of ongoing discussions and the future of the business is being 'explored'.

In the meantime, Royal Yachting Association (RYA), which accredits Red Ensign, says it has suspended the company from being able to deliver any of its courses.

A spokesperson said:

"We have recently been made aware of the situation with Red Ensign Maritime Training and are looking into this.

"When an RYA recognised training centre is sold, or goes into insolvency, we automatically suspend the school of its recognition.  As such, we can confirm that Red Ensign Maritime Training has been suspended from being able to deliver any RYA courses.  We understand that the website has been updated to reflect the suspension of RYA recognised status with no scheduled upcoming course dates.

"Once the owners of Red Ensign Maritime Training have confirmed how existing customers are going to obtain a refund and who to contact, we will share this information with any affected customers that contact us."

Isle of Wight Radio has contacted the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, which also accredits Red Ensign courses.
