Isle of Wight Fundraisers Walk A Mile (Or Twelve) In Womens' Shoes For Domestic Abuse Charity

A fundraising walk in aid of domestic abuse charity Wight DASH will see Islanders walk from St Helens to East Cowes in women's shoes.

'To Be In Her Shoes', organised by Peter May, will take place on Sunday, May 29.

Walkers will start from Fort View Tyres at Fakenham Farm, St Helens and finish at the Shoreside Cafe on East Cowes promenade — a walk of around 12 miles.

Peter is one of hopefully around a dozen men who will be taking part, walking in shoes designed for women. And the higher the stakes, the higher the heels.

In a post on the fundraiser's Facebook page, Peter said:

"Well I suppose I had better set the bar for this walk as it was my idea.

"If I raise personally, less that £200: flat shoes. £200-£400: 1 inch heels. £400-£600: 2 inch heels. £600-£800: 3 inch heels. £800-£1,000: 3 1/2 inch heels. £1,000-£1,200 4 inch heels or £1,200-£1,400: 4 1/2 inch heels.

"If somehow I raise over £1,400 I will attempt to do the last mile in something even higher."

Wight DASH helps Island women and families who face issues such as domestic abuse, poor mental health, adverse childhood experiences and risk of homelessness.
