Isle Of Wight Culture Organisations Receive Government Funding Boost

Ryde Commodore, Ventnor Exchange and StoneCrabs.

Commodore Cinema in Ryde is among the Island's cultural organisations to be awarded Government funding.

Ventnor Exchange and StoneCrabs Theatre Company are also included in the third tranche of the Culture Recovery Fund.

Ventnor Exchange has been awarded up to £35,000, while StoneCrabs is to receive up to £49,633.

Culture Secretary, Nadine Dorries, said:

“Culture is for everyone and should therefore be accessible to everyone, no matter who they are and where they’re from.

“Through unprecedented government financial support, the Culture Recovery Fund is supporting arts and cultural organisations so they can continue to bring culture to communities the length and breadth of the country, supporting jobs, boosting local economies and inspiring people.”

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has announced 116 cultural organisations across the South West will receive a share of £14.4 million.

The Commodore Ryde, which opened in the 1930s, has been awarded £53,035.

It remains the Isle of Wight's only independent cinema.
