A 22-year-old who survived a ‘horrific’ crash on the Isle of Wight has revealed what she went through when her father suffered a medical episode behind the wheel, causing the car to burst into flames.

Asia, who describes the accident near Yarmouth on 2 August as ‘simply terrifying’ has now returned home in the West Wight after recovering in hospital.

Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Marcus, who was also in the car when it spun out of control and smashed into roadside trees, luckily managed to drag Asia to safety and is recovering at home on the mainland now.

Two witnesses to the collision, who wish to remain anonymous, rescued Asia’s 73-year-old father from the burning wreckage and as Asia said: “saved his life”.

All the survivors have praised the efforts of the agencies who were called to the accident. Asia was flown by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance to Southampton General, she had a broken coccyx and an unstable break in her back.

In particular, Asia praised the care she received from Isle of Wight Ambulance Paramedic Emma Webb and from Fire Fighter Phil Ryder from Freshwater Fire Station, who carried out C Spine control during the incident.

Asia’s Doctors at Southampton told her that their actions saved her from being paralysed.
