Isle Of Wight Businesses Warned Of Coronavirus Spot Checks

Business owners on the Isle of Wight are being warned to expect COVID-19 spot checks.

Inspectors from the Isle of Wight Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be paying unannounced visits starting from this month.

The council says its aim is to ensure businesses are managing the risk of the virus sufficiently.

During the checks inspectors will provide advice and guidance to manage risk and protect workers, customers and visitors.

Any businesses found not to be managing this, could be subject to prosecution. Other action that could be taken includes:

  • providing specific advice
  • issuing enforcement notices
  • stopping certain work practices until they are made safe

HSE says if a business receives a call, then they will be required to participate in the spot check.

The call will come from an unknown number.
