Isle Of Wight Based Mental Health Podcast Gains Global Following

An Isle of Wight based podcast — which aims to normalise conversations about mental health — is set to launch a second series, following the success of its first.

Island Minds is co-hosted by Hannah Brewer and Tia Jackson, who say stigma, judgment and misconceptions are still widely prevalent when it comes to mental-ill health. A fact that can stand in the way of people seeking help.

The first series was well received across the world, with a total of 900 downloads over 18 countries.

Hannah and Tia said:

"In series one we cover topics such as Emetophobia, OCD, suicide, stigma, men's mental health and perinatal mental health. We also interviewed actor Liam Garrigan. We are now in pre-production of series two where we hope to continue with our aim of normalising the conversations we are having around mental health and mental ill-health.

"It's important to re-iterate that we do not exist to offer unqualified advice (we do signpost to the relevant healthcare professionals). The podcast simply exists to give individuals a platform to share their experiences with the aim to help reduce stigmatised views.

"Since the pandemic more and more people are aware of mental ill-health but there is still a huge stigma problem. Stigma often prevents them from reaching out and seeking help."

Series one is available on all major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Google, Youtube and Podbean. You can also find Island Minds on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
