Isle Of Wight Arts Organisations Encouraged To Apply For Government Funding Package

Arts organisations on the Isle of Wight could be set to benefit from a Government package worth one and a half billion pounds.

The Government said the emergency grants and loans package - designed to support the future of museums, galleries, theatres, independent cinemas, heritage sites and music venues - will help the institutions cope with the impact of coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the Island's MP is encouraging the Isle of Wight's art sector to apply for the funds, when available.

Bob Seely said:

“I’m pleased that the Government is able to support this sector. First, we need to protect jobs, but we also need to ensure there is something for people to do as we emerge from lockdown.

“It’s these kind of venues that provide something uplifting for people after months of lockdown. I hope that Isle of Wight groups will take advantage of this fund when it becomes available.”

The Government said the package represented the biggest ever one-off investment in UK culture and built on the financial assistance already in place including loans, business rate holidays and the coronavirus job retention scheme.

Further details will be set out when the scheme opens for applications in the coming weeks.
