Islanders Warned About "Nottingham Knockers" Scammers

Islanders are being warned about scams circulating in recent weeks relating to so-called "Nottingham Knockers".

Trading Standards says groups of men try and sell overpriced, poor quality cleaning products on your doorstep.

They will often claim to be ex-prisoners and say they are trying to turn their lives around to guilt-trip you into buying their items. If you don’t they can become aggressive and persistent.

Islanders are being warned the men may also be taking the opportunity to take a look at your property for future scams.

A spokesperson for Trading Standards said:

‘The best advice we can give is if you don’t know the person at your door don’t open it or use a chain and if they become intimidating and you are frightened close the door and call the police on 101.’

Pet scams have also reportedly increased during the pandemic and Islanders are being urged to always pause and think before you engage with purchasing anything online, particularly animals.
