Islanders Invited To Join New Litter Picking Initiative

A series of brand new litter picking events are happening on the Island throughout 2022.

Attendees at the new Rubbish Networking sessions can chat to like-minded people while collecting litter in a pre-selected area of the Isle of Wight.

The first event — held at Seaclose Park, Newport — saw 25 people collecting more than 60kg of rubbish.

With support from local businesses French Franks and Betapak, Rubbish Networking was hailed by organisers as a great display of Island community spirit.

Organiser, Matt Greg, said:

"The principle of this event is very simple — bring the community together and pick up rubbish — yet the climate problem we face is complex.

"It's hard to see how collecting a few bags of rubbish solves (the global issue), but perhaps by combining several simple ideas we can make a big impact.

"That's the goal of Rubbish Networking and we'd love to see you join us."

The next event is planned for Earth Day on April 22, starting from Ryde Harbour. It is free to attend with all equipment provided.

Registration and further information is available online.
