Island Roads Launches Recruitment Drive

Island Roads is seeking people to join its highways maintenance teams, as it gears up for another busy year improving and maintaining the Isle of Wight’s road network.

The company, which employs around 200 Islanders, is responsible for more than 800 kilometres of highway on the Island.

As well as highway improvement work, the company’s other areas of responsibility include winter maintenance activities, street sweeping, amenity grass cutting, verge maintenance and gulley cleansing.

It is hoping to recruit people to work in its highways teams who will be involved in all aspects of highways maintenance, ground works, resurfacing, drainage and kerbing.

Keith Gourlay, Island Roads Construction Manager, said:

“We are looking to fill a range of positions across our various maintenance teams as we embark on this year’s programme of scheduled maintenance work.

“This is a real opportunity for people to join us on what is a large and multi-faceted operation that is making a real difference to the Island’s transport infrastructure and street scene.”

As well as being a responsible employer providing training opportunities, Island Roads is part of a larger company structure that also offers pathways for career progression both on the Island and further afield. The company is contracted to maintain the Isle of Wight’s road network for the next 15 years, providing employees with long-term job security and good prospects for career advancement in the future.

Island Roads also provides opportunities for its employees to support the local community through its volunteering scheme where employees are encouraged to take two days paid leave to take part in community projects.
