Island Groups Welcome WightAID Funding

Nine good causes have received a welcome boost thanks to WightAID’s latest round of funding allocations.

More than £13,000 from the grant-giving charity has been shared between the groups, which all help to support and enrich the lives of people living on the Isle of Wight.

The groups range from sports clubs to support charities, each making a valuable contribution to improving life on the Island for residents.

The latest groups to benefit from WightAID cash grants are:

Friends of Binstead Primary - £450 for outdoor play and sports equipment to enhance children’s wellbeing and enjoyment.
IOW Dance and Figure Skating Club - £500 towards the cost of hiring competition rinks to practice for national and international competitions.
Ryde Saints Football Club - £500 towards football kit for the community club’s under 7s team.
Waterside Pool - £3,669.14 towards a marquee and equipment to provide suitable space for training and community groups to use.
Wight to be Happy - £500 towards the IOW Festival of the Mind to help IOW residents boost self-esteem, build confidence and mental resilience post Covid.
WightSAR - £500 towards Wifi set up for the WightSAR incident control vehicle to assist them with their life saving searches for vulnerable missing persons.
Fusion Arts - £500 towards portable ballet barres to allow pupils to train in more Covid secure buildings.
Jigsaw Family Support - £3,600 towards their Managing Family Separation Workshop which includes supervised/supported child contact sessions for 15 families.
Wetwheels Solent - £3,000 towards Wight Maritime Adventures for 144 disabled people aboard the charity’s specially built accessible powerboat catamaran.

The WightAID Foundation supports charitable projects on the Isle of Wight using donations from generous Island companies, investors and individuals who are keen to help the Island’s community.

“We provide opportunities for disabled people to experience the thrills of getting afloat using our specially designed boat.

"The funding from WightAID will allow us to provide barrier-free maritime adventures for 144 disabled Islanders - giving them the opportunity to help steer the vessel and learn seamanship skills in the beautiful waters off the Isle of Wight. Thank you WightAID!”
