Investigation Ongoing As Shanklin Woman Taken To St Mary's Hospital Following Knife Attack

Emergency services were called to Shanklin this morning after reports of a woman suffering an injury to her leg.

A scene guard is in place around the property on Butler Gardens as police attempt to ascertain the exact circumstances of the incident.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"We were called out at 6.53am this morning (Sunday) after paramedics requested assistance at an address in Shanklin.

"Upon arrival, officers located a woman inside an address who had suffered an injury to her leg.

"She was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment, where she remains.

"There is currently a scene guard in place around a property on Butler Gardens as police seek to establish the exact circumstances of the incident."

Update 3pm:

Isle of Wight Police confirmed they were called to a report of an assault involving a knife in Shanklin by the ambulance service.

They confirmed that a 31-year-old woman from Shanklin was subsequently arrested on suspicion of stabbing another woman in the leg.

They have, however. urged people not to worry, as this was a contained incident and there is no risk to the wider public.

They said:

"The victim is safe and has been taken to hospital. Officers attended the suspect's address and a female was arrested on suspicion of causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.

"Officers contained the address with a scene guard and CSI attended to gather evidence.

"When the initial evidence gathering has been processed, the matter is then handed over to CID. Detectives will interview the suspect and complete other complex enquires.

"The Investigation team are also progressing enquires for the guests in the custody suite. This includes interviews and then assessing what other evidence we need to gather."
