Hundreds Referred To Isle Of Wight Long COVID Clinic

There are 200 patients using the Isle of Wight's Long COVID clinic.

The service launched earlier this year, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, to help people dealing with long-term effects of coronavirus.

Although many patients recover with support and rest, others who have caught the illness have reported persistent symptoms after it's gone.

The service is available by GP referral only and appointments will be available both face-to-face and virtually.

Sarah Kearney, Long COVID Service Lead said:

“We are delighted to be delivering this service on the Island 5 days a week, Monday and Friday 8am to 6pm.

"Accessibility to this service is important to us and we triage all GP referrals sent through - we are here to support those in need and urge anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 for more than 12 weeks to contact their GP.”

Common long COVID symptoms, as per the NHS, include:

  • extreme tiredness (fatigue)
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain or tightness
  • problems with memory and concentration ("brain fog")
  • difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • heart palpitations
  • dizziness
  • pins and needles
  • joint pain
  • depression and anxiety
  • tinnitus, earaches
  • feeling sick, diarrhoea, stomach aches, loss of appetite
  • a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste
