HMRC Text Scam Targets Isle Of Wight Residents

Scam alert

A new text scam is targeting Islanders which purports to be from HMRC.

Trading Standards says it has received reports from Island residents receiving a text - allegedly from HMRC - saying a tax rebate has been issued for an overpayment in the year 2019/20.

It then asks you to click on a link to proceed - but we must not click the link as this is a scam.

You can contact your mobile phone provider to report it free of charge by forwarding the text to 7726.

This means they can take early action to block numbers on their networks and inform the regulators.
