HMP Isle Of Wight Football Team Kitted Out For More Success

HMP Isle of Wight football team is hoping for more success as a new four-team tournament gets underway.

The team, made up of prison officers and other key workers at the prison, will face Team Police on Sunday (20).

Supported by the prison, the team is now proudly sporting a new Joma training kit.

Player, Ryan Hills, said:

"HMP Isle of Wight kindly funded the training gear and we self-funded the kit. It was a great gesture.

"We formed the team two years ago and the league has gone from strength to strength.

"The top two teams in the Island league can go onto play in the National Emergency Services League competition, with a final in Leeds.

"It's really helping to raise the profile of the emergency services on the Island and across the country."

The Island's Emergency Services Football League is made up of teams from the prison service, fire service, police and ambulance service.

Team manager, Mark Hickman, said:

"It's a great league and the lads have really applied themselves well.

"We go behind walls and not many people get to see us, so this also shows that we are people and we want to represent the prison service in the right way.

"Everyone has been working really hard and training very well."

The mini-league kicked off yesterday (Thursday) as Team Fire played Team Police at East Cowes Vics' Beatrice Avenue - with Fire winning 4-0.

Sunday's match between Team Prison and Team Police is at Sandown and Lake FC at The Fairway, Sandown. Kick off is 4.30pm.
