Handprints Needed For Bembridge Care Home Captain Tom 100 Challenge

arguerite Burfit, a resident at The Elms care home in Bembridge, makes her mark on the fence mural with other residents and staff to raise money for the Captain Tom 100 Challenge.

Handprints are needed for a care home in Bembridge that is taking part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge.

Residents and staff at The Elms in Swains Road have launched the 100 Handprints Challenge - green handprints will be a feature on its garden fence mural in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore.

The aim of The Elms is to raise £100 for the Royal British Legion, a charity very dear to the heart of Captain Sir Tom.

The mural is a symbol of hope and inspiration and also honours all those who have been lost to COVID over the past year and the charity wants Islanders to come and 'make their mark'.

The Elms is looking for volunteers to come and add their handprints or to sponsor a resident and their handprint.Lesley Wise, manager of The Elms, said:

“We were all so inspired by the incredible achievements of Captain Sir Tom when he walked 100 laps around his
garden and raised nearly £40 million for NHS charities.

“As we are all quite green fingered and love our garden, we decided our handprints would be a great way to remember him on the fantastic mural at our care home. We all got a little messy putting our handprints on the fence but that was all part of the fun.”

Full details can be found on The Elms’ JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/the-elms-captain-tom-100-challenge.

The challenge is taking place over the weekend of 29 April – 2 May
