Halloween Demolition Date Set For Fawley Power Station Chimney

A date has been set for the demolition of the iconic chimney at Fawley Power Station.

A familiar site from the Isle of Wight, the 650ft structure has stood tall for around half a century.

Most of the station, which has been shut for several years, has already been knocked down to make way for a new housing and commercial development.

The landmark is expected to be blown up, with the controlled use of explosives, at 7am on Halloween (October 31).

In November last year, Islanders were took by surprise when a large bang, caused by demolition work, shook the Island.  Further explosions could be heard from the site in July.

At 5.30am on October 31, an exclusion zone will be put in place around the area by police.

Cowes and East Cowes are expected to offer the best view from the Island.
