Half-Painted Ventnor Road Markings NOT An April Fool's Prank

Half-painted road markings in Ventnor are NOT an April Fool's prank, it's been confirmed.

WightFibre has been laying cables under the road on the High Street this month (March).

Workers dug up the road before restoring it, as they're supposed to. However, it meant only letters on the affected patch of road were repainted, rather than the whole word.

It's supposed to say 'town centre' but currently reads “OW VT”.

WightFibre told Isle of Wight Radio "re-painting the whole street sign is unfortunately not within our excavation and or works."

It says it has approached Island Roads about painting the remaining letters.

"WightFibre work in accordance to strict permits issued by Island Roads and is inspected by Island Roads once work is completed.

"Re-painting the whole street sign is unfortunately not within our excavation and or works, we have however forwarded to Island Roads and it is with their maintenance department to see if it would be possible to carry out the resurfacing and painting works under our road closure.”

*UPDATED

*Island Roads says it has painted the remaining letters on the road.
