Gritters have been deployed on to the Island's roads this evening as temperatures drop to -4 degrees Celsius in some parts this evening (Sunday) - with ice expected on Monday morning.
The Isle of Wight Met Service has issued an amber weather warning for ice covering certain parts of the Island, including the areas surrounding Ventnor and Shanklin.
The Met Office has issued a Yellow Weather Warning for ice until 11am Monday.
Motorists are warned of the risks of black ice on the main Shanklin to Ventnor route, which is known for poor conditions in cold weather.
It's said ice is likely to form as rain and the small amount of snow which has already fallen in areas of the Island forms slush, and freezes onto the roads making conditions treacherous, especially on rural routes and on the Island's backroads.
Island Roads said that it will be treating precautionary routes and select other areas in preparation for this evening's cold snap.
Winter Service decision is to treat the precautionary routes and bridge decks at Stag lane and Foxes road Newport @ 15grmsqm commencing at 7pm today, we will treat known wet spots again at 5am Monday morning. Please drive according to the road conditions @iwight
