Residents in Godshill are set to benefit from a new sensory park, thanks to the efforts of volunteers, and an extra boost from Southern Vectis.
Next to the village hall and Godshill inclusive play park, the new resource is expected to be used by a people of all ages from across the community.
The garden has been chosen as one of the recipients of the Isle of Wight bus operator’s Community Fund, which was reinstated in May.
The Community Fund is open to applicants twice a year, during May and November where Southern Vectis will fund or support good causes.
Southern Vectis General Manager, Richard Tyldsley, said:
“We introduced the Southern Vectis Community Fund to help support all manner of local good causes - from charities to sports teams - and we encouraged anyone who needs a helping hand, however big or small, to apply.
“Godshill Sensory Garden will offer local people a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and find peace and quiet. We’re delighted to be donating £250 to such a worthy cause.”
Fran Shelley, a volunteer fundraiser for Godshill Inclusive play park and Godshill Village Hall, added:
“We really appreciate the help Southern Vectis has given us. The donation will be used to create an environment that provides enrichment to a number of local people. Already, the area is visited by many - including those with disabilities, parents with children, and dog walkers - so this new sensory garden will make tremendous difference to the local community.
“Some of our local residents have already volunteered to come and work in the garden - planting shrubs and creating what promises to be a beautiful space here next to the village hall.
“We’ll make very good use of the extra funds from Southern Vectis, and we’re all looking forward to completing the garden as soon as we can.”
