Further Rise In Isle Of Wight Coronavirus Cases

A further six cases of coronavirus have been recorded on the Isle of Wight.

Official figures published yesterday (Sunday), show the Island has now registered 965 cases, since the start of the pandemic.

There have now been 337 cases in November so far. The cases are from people recorded on the Isle of Wight.

University students still registered with their GP on the Island, but living on the mainland, may influence data should they test positive for COVID-19, as Isle of Wight Radio previously reported.

From Wednesday (2), the Island is set be just one of three areas in England to have been placed in the lowest level of the new, strengthened tier system.

Boris Johnson does face a backbench rebellion before plans are approved. Isle of Wight MP Bob Seely is expected to back the plans, however.

St Mary's Hospital has now recorded 49 deaths, as a result of the virus. It takes the total number of deaths on the Island to 97, including care home and community data.

The Isle of Wight Council is advising us to follow the government guidelines: hands, face, space.

  • Wash your hands often and for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser regularly.
  • Wear a face-covering where appropriate.
  • Keep space from other people; 2 metres or at least 1 metre apart.

If you or someone you know, displays any symptoms, no matter how mild, the council is urging you to get a free test by calling 119 or visiting NHS.uk

The council has also produced a self-isolation toolkit to help people prepare to self-isolate if they need to.
