Further 65 Pupils Self-Isolating After New Coronavirus Cases At Cowes Enterprise College

More than 60 pupils at Cowes Enterprise College have been told to stay at home after a further two cases of coronavirus were confirmed.

It comes a day after the school announced a member of staff had tested positive for COVID-19. As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, following that news, 12 pupils were asked to self-isolate.

Since then, it has been confirmed another two cases have broken out at the school. A further 65 pupils and five staff members have now been told to stay at home.

It means the school now has 77 pupils who are at home self-isolating, as well as the Year 8 bubble from the first confirmed COVID-19 case.

In a letter to parents, Headteacher Rachel Kitley said:

"Please note that we have made home contact with all of the families of the 65 students and that if we have not been in contact today, your child is not affected. In the meantime, the school is safe to remain open to all students and teachers who have not been identified as potential contacts and all students other than those we have communicated with already should continue to attend...

"Only students identified as contacts need to self isolate, and on these occasions the full year groups and full classes have not been identified as contacts. I am sure you will appreciate that each instance is unique and that by applying the same Government guidance in the same way to each case we can identify the actual contacts and that this number can vary case to case depending on each individual situation."

An additional three Island schools announced they had a confirmed case earlier today.
