Busk Till Dusk — Performers To Descend Upon Streets Of Newport This Weekend

Buskers will take to the streets of Newport this weekend, aiming to boost the atmosphere in the town.

From tomorrow (Saturday) the Island Busking Collective will be presenting weekly performers and street entertainers at St Thomas’s Square.

Their goal is to bring local performers and members of the community together to enjoy quality entertainment.

The concept was introduced by Market Days CIC last year as a pilot scheme to help regenerate Newport.

Stephanie James, Island Busking Collective coordinator, said:

“Busking helps to create shared experiences between performers and people passing by or watching,” said

“Good buskers add colour and atmosphere, encouraging people to stick around and enjoy the town and its market.”

Buskers will perform every Saturday, alongside market stalls organised by Market Days CIC.

Among the acts that are performing on the day are Dave Plummer and Maurice Kachuk.

The Island Busking Collective is always on the lookout for new buskers — you can sign up for a slot online.
