Forty Fundraisers Take To The Skies For Wessex Cancer Trust

Forty fundraisers took to the skies above Sandown Airport this morning (Tuesday) to raise funds for Wessex Cancer Trust's 40th birthday.

On September 4, another 40 will be swimming The Solent, between Hurst Point and Colwell Bay.

So far, the team of 80 fundraisers have raised approximately £23,000 for the charity, which supports hundreds of Island families living with cancer.

Regional Fundraising Manager, Lorraine White, was one of the people to take on the challenge, to celebrate 40 years of cancer care.

Shortly after her feet were back on the ground, Lorraine said:

"The view up there was just incredible. I'm down in one piece and it was amazing!

"We've raised around £23,000 and we're expecting that to keep rising. Please sponsor us!"

Island businesses also pledged their support, with teams from Hovertravel, WRS Systems, Glanvilles Damant Legal Services and Will Squibb Boatbuilders skydiving.

Kerri Rowling, who also took on the dive, said:

"I turned 40 this year which coincided with Wessex Cancer Trusts 40th birthday. It seemed an ideal opportunity for me to knock an item off my bucket list while doing something for a cause that means a lot to me.

"Cancer has affected my family and friends and I relished the opportunity in giving something back to this meaningful charity."
