Fort Victoria Sexual Assault: Isle Of Wight Man Charged With Child Rape

An Isle of Wight man has been charged with the rape of a child, following a 'serious sexual assault' at Fort Victoria in Yarmouth.

Police say on the afternoon of Monday 31 August, a three-year-old child was seriously sexually assaulted in woodland at Fort Victoria Country Park.

As Isle of Wight Radio previously reported, a man in his 60s was arrested as part of an investigation into an alleged serious sexual offence.

Graham Medway, aged 62 years, from the Freshwater area, has been charged with the rape of a child under the age of 13.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"We appreciate that this case has been of understandable concern to the local community, however we ask you not to speculate on the circumstances, as this can have an impact on proceedings later down the line when evidence is presented to a jury.

"We have received an overwhelming response from the public in relation to this case and would encourage anyone with any concerns related to our appeals to call 101."

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Thursday 24 September).
