Former Poultry Farm On Edge Of Gurnard Could Become Houses

Plans have been submitted to turn a former poultry farm into houses, in the first part of a development between Cowes and Gurnard.

Filling the gap on Place Road between The Range and the new 93-home Meadow View Park on the edge of Gurnard, outline planning permission is being sought by Bourne Developments to build 14 houses.

In a second phase of the scheme, which is yet to be finalised and submitted for planning permission, a further 27 detached, semi-detached and terraced houses are indicated to be built

The first-phase homes, comprising of two, three and four-bed market houses, would be built on mostly disused land but with a collection of dilapidated sheds from a former poultry farm removed.

The outline planning permission considers access, appearance, layout and scale of the site, with landscaping reserved for later consideration.

Planning agents, Andrew White Planning Consultancy, said in a statement submitted with the application:

"The proposed development would inevitably alter the appearance of the site, through changing it from an unkempt and partially overgrown previously developed site to a housing development.

"This is an opportunity to rejuvenate this site, while delivering a mixed collection of quality homes of a scale, form, density and layout that is commensurate with the surrounding area."

To view, or comment, on the application (20/02229/OUT) you can visit the Isle of Wight Council's planning portal.

Comments will be accepted until January 29.

It is said phase two will provide 35 per cent (14) affordable housing units, on a mixed tenure basis but the precise figures are still being determined.
