Flood Alert Issued For Isle Of Wight

Islanders are being asked to 'be prepared' for flooding, with storm Eunice set to cause carnage across the Isle of Wight from around 8am tomorrow (Friday).

Friday afternoon's tide, due in at 12:06pm, is higher than normal due to Eunice bringing severe Gale Force 9 south-westerly winds and large waves — tide table values increasing by almost a metre to a forecast 5 metres.

Forecast levels mean that water will come close to properties for an hour either side of high water, sea front roads, esplanades and car parks will flood.

In Cowes, water will impact the High Street, Medina Road (floating bridge), as well as Sea Street in Newport.

In East Cowes, sea water forced up through drains will impact roads at Albany Road, York Avenue and Castle Street.

The ferry terminal at Yarmouth will flood.

Tide levels remain a little elevated on Saturday (February 19) at 12.30pm, although any impacts are likely to be minor.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said:

"We continue to monitor the forecast. If you have it, please install flood protection at Medina Road (Cowes) Well Road (East Cowes) and Bridge Road (Yarmouth), an hour before high tide.

"We will update or remove this message by 6pm this evening."
