Floating Bridge Return To Service Delayed Again

The return to service of the Isle of Wight's maligned Floating Bridge will again be delayed.

It was hoped the vessel would return to action during the week of December 13, but this will now be put back by at least a week.

A final inspection by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency will deem if the vessel is fit to return to service after a period of repairs and modifications to the prows and ramps.

Should this prove successful, it will return to service at 5am on Monday December 20, with final works having got underway recently.

The vessel will be seen making crossings before full service is resumed as part of staff training measures, and in the meantime, the passenger launch will continue to be available during scheduled hours.

Cllr Phil Jordan said:

"We're wasting no time (while) training and other essential works (are) done, so the service can start again on December 20.

"We hoped to have the floating bridge back in service this week, but because of delays in delivering some parts, the MCA inspection was in turn delayed which means we'll be returning the vessel to work a week later than anticipated."
