Firefighters Called To Hotel In Shanklin

Firefighters have been called to a hotel in Shanklin Old Village.

Crews are attending reports of a tumble dryer fire in the laundry room of Holliers Hotel, according to the fire service.

The building has been evacuated, along with a number of customers at the neighbouring Village Inn pub.

The road between Shanklin Old Village and Ventnor is currently blocked, with buses being diverted.

Crews from Shanklin, Ventnor, Sandown and Newport are on scene, including the Aerial Ladder Platform.

The fire service said the alarm was raised at 8.56pm.


Crews have used four breathing apparatus and two hosereel jets.

It’s understood the incident is confined to an outbuilding.

The incident is said to be under control. 

UPDATED:

The Fire and Rescue service told Isle of Wight Radio that the fire has been contained and extinguished.

No injuries have been reported and assessments are underway as to the viability of guests returning to the hotel this evening.

Firefighters have now stood down.

*Around 40 guests and the driver have been put up at the Channel View Hotel, Shanklin.

All guests are safe and well.
