Fire Breaks Out In Room At St Mary's Hospital

Staff at St Mary's Hospital have put out a fire which broke out in a side room this morning (Tuesday).

Quick-thinking staff managed to put out the fire in a side room on Osborne Ward, before crews from Newport fire station arrived on scene.

The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service said crews from Newport, Cowes and Ryde were called to the hospital at 8.29am.

Firefighters have been ventilating the area.

No serious injuries have been reported.

*A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:

"The fire service responded to an incident at St. Mary's Hospital this morning after a small fire next to Sevenacres.

"Our safety protocols were followed, the fire was extinguished and four people are being examined as a precautionary check. Everyone assembled outside the building until the fire service confirmed that it was safe to return."
