Premier League Southampton needed extra time to edge past Coventry City in the FA Cup, as Isle of wight goalkeeper, Simon Moore, starred in goal for the Championship side.

It was Coventry who started brightest, dominating the early exchanges at St Mary's.

Moore - who started his career at Southampton - was called into action with a superb reaction save to deny Saints striker and former England star, Theo Walcott.

Coventry were duly rewarded for their pressure when Ben Sheaf combined brilliantly with Viktor Gyokeres in the box, before the Swede found space and hit a low clinical finish past the keeper.

On the stroke of half-time, 29 year old former Sandown High School student, Moore, saved comfortably from a Nathan Redmond shot to keep the visitors ahead at the break.

And Moore could do nothing about Southampton's equaliser in the 63rd minute. Picking the ball up 25 yards out, Scotland midfielder, Stuart Armstrong, sent a sweet strike with the outside of his foot into the top corner.

After finishing level at 1-1, the game was forced into extra time.

Southampton piled on the pressure, with Kyle Walker-Peters firing in a low shot, which was deflected past a despairing Moore to put Saints ahead.

Coventry thought they had drawn level to take it to penalties, but Martin Waghorn's last-gasp effort was rightly disallowed for offside.

Southampton will host West Ham in the 5th round.
