Ex-Soldier On Isle Of Wight As Part Of 191 Marathon Charity Challenge

A former soldier is on the Isle of Wight this week for the latest leg of 191 marathons to raise money for a veterans charity he founded.

Paul Minter, who served alongside Prince William and Prince Harry, is running across the circumference of the UK coastline in aid of mental health charity Head Up.

Yesterday (Thursday) saw Paul run from Ryde to Niton, with today seeing him set-off from Niton towards Yarmouth, and Saturday completing the circuit via a return to Ryde.

His time on the Island marks days 117 to 119 of his 218 day journey, with in excess of 2,400 miles - more than 4.5 million steps - completed to date. All while lugging a 10km bag around on his back.

The gruelling 5,000 mile run will see Paul cross the finish line at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium during half time of a home football match.

So far the endeavour has raised £371,000 for Head Up, which he will use to build a safe haven where veterans can seek mental health help.

Paul said:

"I’ve lost more than twice as many comrades to suicide than I have to combat, despite doing four tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

"That fact can’t be ignored, and we can’t sit by and let that continue.”

Donations can be made online.
