A rescheduled festival which hoped to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival has been cancelled — with no refunds for ticketholders.

Experience 1970 was scheduled to take place at the legendary East Afton site which is estimated to have attracted more than 600,000 patrons to the Island, featuring one of the greatest multi-day line-ups in music history.

Organisers of the modern day tribute weekend have now announced the show — originally scheduled for September 2020 — will not go ahead.

Following its postponement last year, Experience 1970 said it had tried, but failed, to secure a new date for 2022.

However, it claims the landowner did not provide one and arrangements "irretrievably broke down".

He said:

"Sadly, Experience 1970 will have to cease trading and write off massive losses — for this reason, there can be no refunds for tickets already sold."

Isle of Wight Radio has asked Tapnell Farm for a comment.
