Enthusiastic Runner Takes On Mighty Hill Multiple Times For Vulnerable Islanders

Alex Walsh

This weekend an enthusiastic runner is planning to sprint up and down "the most gruelling hill" he's ever attempted on the Isle of Wight, as many times as he can muster - in an hour.

Alex Walsh, from Ventnor, is not only hoping his passion for running will rub off on Islanders.

But he is also hoping to raise funds for Ventnor Community Foodbank, which supports vulnerable Islanders.

Today (Sunday) Alex will be running the hill challenge off Rew Lane just outside Upper Ventnor.

The hill is known as Week Down Lane and there is an elevation gain of 317 feet in half a mile, giving it a gradient of nearly 11.5% overall.

Alex told Isle of Wight Radio:

“I've been told it's a particularly loopy challenge but think it might give people something to smile about during Lockdown.

“Hopefully, it'll give another example of how people are supporting each other during a particularly hard year.”
