'Enlighten Folks': Brading's Scarecrow Festival Supports Local Community

Scarecrow

Islanders are being encouraged to go along to Brading's Scarecrow Festival to support the local community.

Brading Residents Association, which organises the event says it's hoped it will 'enlighten folks' spirits' after lockdown and support the local community.

It started today (Friday) and runs until Sunday 6 September.

Meanwhile, a COVID- safe Sale Trail or car-boot is also taking place over the Bank Holliday Weekend from Islander's gardens and drives.

Chair of Brading Residents Association, Sue Birch said:

'This would be an ideal opportunity for us to say a 'Big Thank you' to NHS workers and other essential workers, who have been stars in supporting us.  Of course, any other type of scarecrow would be fun too. The wackier the better!

'Entry costs just £1 per scarecrow, forms available from Brothers, Coffee shop Rectory Mansion, Premier Store and Brothers and 18 Quay Lane. We are sure that folks would have used 'lockdown' to have a clear-out and this would be a good way to sell items.'

The map for the event  - locating the scarecrows - can be found below:

Maps are also available from shops and the Church Hall.
