Emergency Services Respond To Workman Trapped At Height In Cowes

A workman trapped at height in Cowes has prompted a call-out for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service and Ambulance service this afternoon (Thursday)

The Fire and Rescue service said it was called at 1.28pm, and is supporting colleagues from the ambulance service in recovering the casualty - who is said to be trapped approximately 10 feet in the air. 

One appliance from Newport and another from Ryde, along with the aerial ladder platform are attending the scene on Medina Road.

*UPDATED 2.24pm*

The casualty has been rescued by the fire service using the aerial ladder platform.

It's believed they fell through timber and ended up suspended by their safety harness.

*The person has been left in the care of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Jeff Walls, duty officer from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, said:

"We've arrived at an incident where we've had a fall from height but the individual's been around about three floors up from the building.

"There were complications about how he was going to brought down from that level so fire and rescue were called for our support and we used our aerial ladder platform to assist the ambulance to get the casualty down."
