Facebook: Isle of Wight Police

Isle of Wight police and coastguard teams have been called to an incident on Culver Parade this afternoon (Wednesday).

Police were contacted at 3.13pm by the Coastguard, after a device was found near to the Driftwood Bar, Sandown, that may need removing by bomb disposal.

The police will be assisting with road closures and scene safety while assessing a plan of action.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said:

"Please don’t be alarmed with the amount of emergency services in that location.

"Culver Parade is a large open area and to make it safe we need several people."

Southern Vectis have been contacted and advised of the road closure.

*UPDATED

*It has been confirmed that the items are not explosives. Initially, Coastguard believed they might be flares. It appears they are candles.

The incident is now being stood down.

Always better to be safe than sorry! Never be worried about calling in something that looks suspicious. I would rather it is treated seriously until we can work out what it is.
