Emergency Service Crews Called To Fire At Lynnbottom Tip

(c) Isle of Wight Council

Last night (Sunday) saw a fire at the Lynnbottom Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in two of the large open skips for electronics and furniture.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire Service remained in attendance until the fire was brought under control.

There are no reported injuries and the fire occurred when the site was closed to the public.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Council said:

"We hope to open at 10am today (Monday) subject to a safety and damage assessment.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and will issue updates when available, including guidance for anyone who had bookings.

"We would like to thank the fire service for their prompt action in containing this incident."

UPDATE 9am:

The Tip remains closed this morning, with a spokesperson saying there is still some 'smouldering' where the fires were.

The Council spokesperson said:

"The skip fire at Lynnbottom HWRC & CWRC is still smouldering making the site unsafe to open today.

"Commercial customers using the main weighbridge to access the landfill and Windrow composting can still access those sites."
