East Cowes Business Launches Fundraiser For Isle Of Wight Donkey Sanctuary

Kacey from DJF Garden Maintenence

East Cowes firm DJF Gardening Maintenance has launched a fundraiser for a charity they say is "close to their hearts".

Kacey Fereday and her Father, who run the company are regular visitors to the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary in Wroxall.

They want to raise money to build a new barn for the rescued Frech herd of donkeys.

'Busbys Barn' will be named in memory of the first donkeys to come over from France but he sadly passed away last year.

The French herd consists of 10 donkeys, eight of which were saved from the meat market. The two other Frenchies were taken in by a sanctuary in Normandy - these two were named Hope and Charity.

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, Kacey said:

"We are lovers of the donkey sanctuary and love the work there that is completed by all the staff. They have a new French herd coming and they are going to build a barn. We have reached our initial goal of 500 pounds which is great but we want to get a little bit more and see if the lovely Island people will donate."

Kacey added:

"I just think the Donkey Sanctuary is an amazing place, they don't charge for anyone to go in there. I know a lot of Islanders do already support the sanctuary and we have lived on this Island for two years - and we are amazed by the Island community - everyone is so kind-hearted over here. I just want to get that Island spirit up and even if it is a pound of fifty pence - it all helps".

Kacey said she is "amazed" at the amount of businesses to come forward and show their support.

Among the companies that have donated include:

  • MRM garden maintenance
  • The Ship and Castle
  • MB Carpentry and maintenance
  • Fin and Furr Pet Shop
  • Roost
  • Bright Wight Electrical
  • East Cowes Vintage Emporium

Thanks Iona!

The site in Wroxall has previously been subjected to vandalism, with staff and volunteers at the site in Wroxall saying it clearly 'had a massive impact' on the donkeys.'
