Dozens Without Phone Or Broadband Services After Arreton Crash

Dozens of Islanders have been left without broadband or phone services after a crash in Arreton.

A car went into one of Openreach's green street cabinet yesterday (Sunday).

Since the incident, some Islanders say they have been unable to access the internet or make calls from their landline.

Speaking to Isle of Wight Radio, one resident said she was told services would not be restored until Christmas Eve.

Openreach said "there's a lot of work to do" to repair the damage and it may take several days.

A spokesperson said:

"We can confirm that our network was damaged when a car hit one of our green cabinets on Main Road, Arreton yesterday affecting broadband service to dozens of customers.

"We attended with our electricity company partners and made the area safe as live power was connected to the cabinet, but there’s a lot of work to do to get the repairs done and we expect it to take at least several days.  We’ll update with more details as we have them.

“We understand how frustrating this must be for anyone affected and we thank everyone involved for their patience while we get things fixed.  Anyone experiencing any disruption with their phone or broadband service should report it to their service provider who will then inform us."

Members of the public can report any damage or unsafe equipment on Openreach's network via the Help and Support section of its website.
