“Do You Know Where Your Kids Are?” — Police In Newport Anti-Social Behaviour Clampdown

Youths verbally abusing retail staff and kids climbing onto shop roofs — they’re among the incidents which have prompted Isle of Wight police to ask: “do you really know what your children are up to?”

Officers on the Island say they’ve received ‘constant reports’ of anti-social behaviour in the last week.

Among incidents they’ve been called to include thefts from stores, teenagers setting fire to items in stairwells and young people knocking items off shop shelves and throwing them at staff.

And police say they’re only a few of the incidents.

In an effort to clampdown on anti-social behaviour, officers will be putting on extra patrols and using their dispersal powers.

CCTV images have been released by the force, featuring children who “collectively contribute to anti-social behaviour in the Newport.”

Posting on Facebook, PC Livvy said:

”Now I'm not saying every child in every picture is responsible for doing everything above.

“There is more often a ring leader or one that encourages the others. However these groups do collectively contribute to the Anti- Social Behaviour in the town.

“In the current climate people are finding things extremely difficult as it is and I'd like members of the public who work in and visit the town to not be subject to, or intimidated by, these children.

“People should not be subject to a barrage of abuse for asking them to move or behave.

“Equally we need to safeguard them against their risky pastimes which include setting things on fire and scaling three storey buildings to then stand on damaged , unstable and uneven rooftops.

“As well as the offences they potentially commit each time they are in the town.”

PC Livvy added:

“If you do recognise your child in amongst these pictures we will be happy to speak to them and give them some advice. I know they are mostly wearing the same clothing so it might not be that easy.”
