Detention For Isle Of Wight Teen Who Put Fake Gun To PC's Head

A 16-year-old girl from the Isle of Wight - who admitted putting a fake gun to a police officer's head and pulling the trigger - has been sentenced.

The teenager appeared at the Isle of Wight Youth Court in Newport today (Wednesday).

The court heard how, on February 4, police were called to the Island Learning Centre following an incident involving a pupil who had been threatened.

A girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was later found on Newport's St James Street.

There, PC Kerri Trickey had been assaulted, with an imitation firearm used to hit her above the eye.

The court heard how, before this, the teenager had put the gun to PC Trickey's head, and pulled the trigger.

The officer did not know the weapon was a fake.

The girl admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and three counts of possession of an imitation firearm, namely a Sig Sauer P226 BB gun.

She has been given an 18 months' detention order.
